The first half of league play is close to complete and with the start of the new year just upon us, we take a look at players to keep an eye on in the Portuguese League as we get set to enter the second half of the season.

Julio Cesar (Benfica)

The Brazilian keeper has adapted well to the Portuguese league and  has allowed only two goals in 8 starts, his calming demeanor should only help the club as they look to repeat as Champions.

Anderson Talisca (Benfica)

The forward has played well in his first season with Benfica, the Eagles will need him to continue his form if they are to repeat as Champions.

Jackson Martinez (FC Porto)

The striker continues to be a goal machine at Porto and after a slow start to his standards is again in fine form, with Porto still in the Champions League he will need to continue this way if they are to have success.

Ricardo Quaresma (FC Porto)

The forward normally comes off the bench at Porto but has their been a more dangerous player coming off the bench this season in the league, his spark is essential to Porto's success.

Pedro Tiba (Braga)

The midfielder has cemeted a spot in Braga's starting eleven and he will need to continu his form for the squad to contend in the league and a European spot next season.

Andre Andre (Guimaraes)

He has been a main cog in the Guimaraes midfield this season and his fine form has garnered player of month consideration. He must remain consistent to give his side any chance to succeed this season.

Nani (Sporting)

He has been the leagues top performer so far winning player of the month twice and almost helping Sporting out of Champions League group stage. His form and the squad are inter twined.

Carlos Mane (Sporting)

To many he is the best Portuguese U21 in the league and has developed into an every day player this season, the presence of Nani on the squad has helped this player reach new heights.

Cassio (Rio Ave)

He has been one of the better keepers in Portugal this season if not the best for his club, Rio Ave made a surprise appearance in the Europa League but will need the keeper on his A game to return.

Moussa Maazou (Maritimo)

The forward is battling for the league golden boot and will be interesting to see if he can keep up his form, not only for the top scorers trophy but to help his side up the standings.
