The Portuguese League is set to resume play on June 4 after an eleven week lay off due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the league in guidance by the Directorate-General of Health have strict guidelines that they will need to follow to provide a safe enviroment for the players and the clubs staff, one the guidelines that is currently creating angst among clubs is the stadiums guidelines.
The league hopes to have this issue settled by early next week and release what stadiums have passed the guidelines and will host games once the league resumes play. The D.G.S. has informed the league to use as little stadiums as possible to finish the season although they did not stipulate what an acceptable amount of stadiums would be.
Issues that are now causing the league grief is that many teams want to play in their own stadiums even though home field advantage will be at a minimal without fans in the stands. Madeira based Maritimo has been one of the more vocal clubs, even threating the league with legal action if they can't play at home. The league hopes to avoid flights all together with Santa Clara already having announced they will share stadiums with Belenenses going forward and Famalicao will share Gil Vicente's Estadio Cidade de Barcelos.
